What is Reiki?
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words Rei and Ki. Rei means spiritual wisdom which is universal or present everywhere. Ki means life force. Reiki therefore means spiritually guided life force energy.
Reiki is a natural healing system that unlocks the inner flow of vital energy within the senders and receiver's body. We all have an energy field around us known more commonly as our aura and have seven main energy centres more commonly known as chakras. These are spinning discs of energy which with modern day living sometimes get clogged or blocked thus causing illness and fatigue. Reiki is a hands on healing method where the sender lets the universalhealing energy flow through them into the receiver, drawing out negative energy thus allowing the receivers vital energy to flow creating good health , balance, harmony, control and peace.
History
I am trained in Usui reiki which was created in the mid nineteenth century by a gentleman called Mikao Usui. Usui was born in Japan and grew up in a Buddist environment where the idea of the Buddhas quest of enlightenment impressed him. He noted that the Buddha had the ability to heal physical illness and set about learning the technique himself. He began to work on a system of using energy to encourage natural healing.
Usui was allowed to study the sacred writings at the temples which lead him to the holy mountain of Koriyama where he fasted and meditated for 21 days until he felt he was able to transmit healing energy through his hands.
It was then a blinding flash appeared infront of him and he saw the symbols. He had been given the gift of healing and attuning other people to heal and so modern day Usui Reiki was created.
Method
Reiki is a very relaxing and gentle experience for both the client and therapist. The room is prepared by dimming lights, perhaps lighting candles and incense. The client is asked to lye flat on the bed/couch (although it is entirely possible to practise in sitting position) then the therapist begins by laying their hands gently over the eyes and opening the channels of energy. The treatment proceeds with the therapist either laying their hands directly on the body or hovering above in the energy zone. Concentration with be given to the Chakra areas. You will be fully clothed at all times.
Use
Reiki is used to treat any ailment or illness and hopes to harmonise the chakras and draw out negative energy thus allowing the receivers vital energy to flow creating good health, balance, harmony, control and peace. Reiki can be used alongside any medical procedures. It is a wonderfully relaxing treatment particularly good for stress.
Treatments cost £25 and last approx 45 mins.
