History

As the name suggests, this type of massage originated in India. It is an ancient technique which plays an important part of life in India. The technique is passed through the generations as women practice on their families and children learn from a very young age. It is thought to have been around for 4000 years. Indian Head Massage was brought to the West by a Osteopath named Narendra Mehta. On moving to London he was distressed that he could find no one to perform head massage and he returned to India to learn the technique  so that he could develop it and introduce it to the Western society.

 

Method

The therapy is usually conducted whilst the client is seated in a chair, fully clothed. It involves massage, acupressure and shiatsu techniques on the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck ,scalp and face. Pressure varies from light and gentle to deep and invigorating.

 

Use

This wonderful massage can be used in a variety of ways to include:

-Calming and relaxing the nervous system

-Dispersal of toxins from tense, knotted muscles

-Stimulation and improvement of circulatory and lymphatic systems
